10 Bali Must Try Activities and Experiences

Visiting Bali for the first time? Or already a Bali regular looking for new activities and experiences? There are an abundance of activities to suit every single taste, and I bet you have already crossed some must do’s off your list. Here’s hoping I can give you some new ones to add to your list, whether you prefer the easy and mellow experiences or crave for some adrenaline spiking activities.

1. Explore the rice fields and hike volcanoes

Bali must try activities: Hiking rice fields

Bali is full of picturesque rice fields that bring the livelihood for many locals. Put on your hiking shoes and go explore the lush greenness that people associate with Bali postcards. Don’t forget to bring your camera so you can capture many Instagram-worthy moments while you’re at it. From my previous blog post you can find out which rice fields are worth a visit.

Bali must try activities: Hiking Mount Batur volcano

For the more adventurous and fit ones I would recommend trekking one of the 2 Bali volcanoes: Mount Batur or Mount Agung. The tours start in the middle of the night, so you’ll reach the top in time to witness the beautiful sunrise and breathtaking views. Worth every grueling step up the mountain!

2. Fine-dine on a budget

Bali must try activities: Merah Putih restaurant in Seminyak

In the past years Bali has become a true culinary mecca. World-renowned chefs have opened up restaurants to suit every taste, and you can easily enjoy a fancy meal on a budget way smaller than what you would need at home. Check out my previous blog post about the 15 best fine-dining spots on the island to choose your venue for tonight.

3. Spend a day at a beach club

Bali must try activities: The Royal Purnama in Gianyar

The ultimate indulgence in Bali is spending a day at a beach club. A pool by the sea, cocktails and food to be ordered easily while lounging on your comfy sun chair and the chance to witness magnificent sunsets. There are plenty of options to choose from, whether you are with friends, family or your loved one. I have done the research so you can choose from the best beach clubs.

4. Go camping or glamping

Bali must try activities: Camping at Mount Batur

Camping can bring you a real sense of adventure. It is a great way to escape the crowds and experience a slower and simpler life. The key is appreciating the unspoiled beauty of nature at its most basic level. Luckily the camping laws in Bali are quite loose, and as long as you set up your tent away from major villages and roads, you will be able to enjoy the starry skies and stories over the campfire unbothered. A tent can be bought for example at ACE hardware stores or ordered online. Some campers prefer sleeping in a hammock instead.

Bali must try activities: Glamping at Sandat in Ubud

If camping in its real form is not exactly your cup of tea, but you’d still like to enjoy a night outside, you might want to try the new craze of glamping. Luxury “tent” accommodation can be booked for example at Sandat and Menjangan Dynasty Resort.

You can read more about camping and glamping in bali from here.

5. Drive your scooter to untouched parts of Bali

Bali is full of picturesque rice fields that bring the livelihood for many locals. Put on your hiking shoes and go explore the lush greenness that people associate with Bali postcards. 6. Splash away at Waterbom waterpark

For a fun day out head to Waterbom waterpark. The place is an oasis in the midst of the busy Kuta. At the moment there are 13 cool rides to choose from. Between having fun on the rides you can chill out by the sun chairs on many lounging areas in the gardens or eat and drink at the restaurants. Entrance fee is Rp. 520 000 for adults and Rp. 370 000 for kids. Waterbom has a cashless payment system in use, where you just put money in at the ticketing counter and get a wristband, which will be scanned and charged as payment whenever you do a transaction inside the park. Isn’t it easy having fun?!

7. Try out some water sports

If Waterbom didn’t offer you enough of a dose of wet and wild fun, head to Tanjung Benoa (Nusa Dua) to sample their various water sports activities. You can hop on a jet-ski, hold on tight while tubing or high above the sea on a flying fish or enjoy the magnificent views of the sea, cliffs, temples and beaches on a paragliding or parasailing adventure. Best time for water sports is from April to October.

Address: Wibisana, Jl. Pratama, Margi Pemuunan, Tanjung Benoa

10. Go deep in a canyon in North Bali

Bali must try activities: Canyoning in North Bali

How does abseiling waterfalls, sliding on natural rocks and jumping and swimming in a canyon sound like? I consider it to be the most unique and extreme Bali adventure. Adventure and Spirit offers different options for exploring canyoning in different locations and levels of difficulty from beginner to advanced. Best time to take on this challenge is during rainy season or right after a big downpour.
